Post "Career Fest"

Welcome back to the PR Stylist! This week has been a busy one for me, it's been a mixture of class assignments, club activities and preparing for and attending my school's career fair. If you've ever been to a career fair you know how overwhelming and sometimes awkward they can be. No matter the outcome of your experience at a career fair whether you deem it successful or as just a trial run, reflecting on what happened will help prepare you for future career fairs and networking events.

Tips for Reflecting Post Career Fair: The following are 4 brief tips for debriefing after a career fair.

1. Follow up with "Thank You" notes. Sending thank you notes/cards/emails to the employers that you spoke with. This could lead to follow up conversations for more networking and it speaks volume to employers when you take the time to send them a thank you note.

2. Who did you give your resume to? Sit down and write out who you shared your resume and information with to follow up with their company, do more research to find out if their business interests you, and to see where your career goals fit within their company.

3. Pros and Cons. Were there things that went really well or really bad or both? Make a list of what you deem your strengths were when talking with employers and networking. This goes the same for things that you feel may have not gone so well, things/techniques you need to work on.

4. Preparing for the next one. After making your pros and cons lists and going through the employers you gave your resume to, take that information to prepare for the next career fair. With those lists you can use those to filter through the jobs that you want/employers you want to work for along with the enhancing your skills for networking at the next fair.
