Finding the Right Leadership for You

In the last two years of my undergrad career I have had the opportunity to hold different leadership positions from president of my sororority chapter, to an exec board member for event planning for greek life, to a member of the Chancellor's board for diversity recruitment to being a career ambassador. Even though all of those titles hold different meanings, they have all given me something valuable to bring into the working world.

You don't have to be in a sororoity, in student government, or an exec board just to gain transferrable leadership skills. Here are some ways to build/enhance your leadeship skills to take with you into the working world.

1. Attend a leadersip workshop/certification course. This can be a one day session or conference where you learn what skills you're good at and how to apply that into a leadership role. There are some courses that offer certification after attending a course on leadership, which is a great element to add to your resume.

2. Take on a tasks in a group project. You can take the intiative to be the spokesperson for your group or the delegater or even in charge of the subcommittee wihtin your group. This is another great way to enhance your resume without taking on executive position in a club, you can use the skills you've obtained through your classroom experiences.

3. Event plan! If you are in a club or organization you can volunteer to help plan an annual event. This is a great start to getting your feet wet in a leadership role without too much responsibility and being overwhelmed.
